For all intensive purposes  Linux can be most hard and laden with jargon ?   Who is all this jargon for other than to intimidate other stupid people .  Among the dumbest of people the worst sin in the world is to admit that you are wrong or do not know.  Better , or the ultimate mistake is to admit that you do not know.  Instead pretend like you do .

It’s akin to people who come from deranged or most dysfunctional backgrounds and families.  In prison or at the anger management course they hear words drifting in and out of their consciousness -  “maturity “  “responsibility ” “fair treatment of other people ” etc etc etc.  The  amazing part is that although they can spout these words they have absolute no innate concepts of what the words mean in application.  The one purpose of these words is to intimidate others in their community – who associated these words and their terms , since these terms are associated in the minds of their friends , family and colleagues with authority figures and their powers.   Its not unlike spouting such terms as “F.B.I.”  or ” Corrections Canada”  .

The  purpose and purposes of jargon is indeed to explain what might be complex terms in a swoop.  This is exceptionally important in the case of emergencies.  If the sail boat is going over you do not have time to explain to your crew which and what parts of the boat they have to attend to.  Jargon or the nomenclature of the trade or sport makes this all rapid , fast and efficient.

So is it with computer Linux jargon.   There is a good reason for it.

Software is usually named in version numbers.  The big changes  are assigned different distinct version numbers for example 1 , 2 ,3, 4.   Incremental upgrades to a software product will be given a “unique version number ” .   These “unique version numbers”  can be thought of incremental upgrades and updates.  For example the software version may be  Ubuntu version  3,  the upgrade as a theoretical example -version  3.1  which can be followed by  unique version  3.11 or 3.17 or later 3.8.

The beauty of Linux is that it is open source.  As users provide upgrades and fixes – whether because if a defieiency or mistake in the Linux software code , an improvement is made , or new computer hardwae is either introduced or becomes more mainstream and available.

The key is that the version of  the Linux distro you are using supports your hardware and the various components of it.  For example an older version of the same Distro might not support your sound card – hence no sound , or your wireless internet adapter wheras the newer one will .   Yet the newer “improved version of the Distro”  may be too demanding on an older throw away computer you have used to learn Linux with or just too slow.
