Basis of UNIX Multi-user Computer Networking
It can be said that from the very beginnings of computers and computing , in the 20th century . with our electronics and advances in electronics technology and technologies , that UNIX was designed as a true multi-user and multi-users system. Indeed in the early years of UNIX computing it was considered “greedy” to keep to yourself an entire PDP-11/45 ( circa 1972) , vintage microcomputer system – indeed it was considered hogging or to be a computer pig who was self centered to the extreme. On top of that such a PDP 11/45 mini computer cost a paltry $ 11,000 US way back in 1972 , when a dollar was a dollar , when a basic Japanese car cost $ 3,000 and gas was 36 cents a gallon.
True the speed of such a high end university or government / fortune 500 company high end computer as such was no greater than early IBM PC AT’s , a bargain then at $ 6,000 for an IBM genuine model and about 1/3 of the price ( $ 2,000) for a generic PC AT clone model.
While it can be said that computers have vastly gone down in price and exploded with performance networking remains a most useful tool and skill. Indeed the whole internet is one giant network. Cable broadband systems in themselves can be said to be one giant lan network.
