It can be best and easily said  that many of the computers that run the classic UNIX Operating System (the OS), are connected to other computers in their site ,organization ,  complex or half way around the world.  UNIX setups indeed were the very start of serious networking and showed the uses of of and development of the science as well as “art” of computer networking.

Computer network people ( well at least in their own minds) , are the upper crust or echelon of the computer science world.  Wizards with which a few keystrokes – and what is dead in the water is not working like a dream and connected at ultra high speeds to a computer or computer systems around the globe.

It can be easily said that many of these computers that run the UNIX system and systems are parts of networks , and many others have telephones and other computer and communications gear connected to UNIX computers in other places. Some are connected to the internet , while others ( for very good and valid reasons) are stand alone or are connected to intranets.

Still most UNIX computers one way or another are part of  a computer network or networks.
