Dual Boot Linux Install

If you wish to utilize one computer , or what is your fastest best computer to learn Linux , or a more demanding distro of Linux – then a dual boot install can be done.  Basically what this entails is that the same single computer can run Linux or Windows.  In most cases you will run OS or the other – not both at the same time.

This is a Linux install option that many find easiest – their computer is set up already, it is conveniently placed all with supporting hardware – be it a mouse ,keyboard , printer , scanner or all in one unit.

However if the computer is part of a network – be it part of an office or home lan  and if that computer serves as a server – be it a print server or lan security gateway this may present issues.  In this case the computer will have to be and running fully.  In addition the device drivers and installs for the peripherals – need to installed and capable of  working with and integrating with the other computer and their operating systems on the network.

One additional option is to have two computers available – one for the standard windows installation and another for Linux.  One monitor can serve two running computers at the same time with a simple KVM switch.  With a KVM switch setup the computer operator can switch back and forth between the two working computers in a snap by a simple keyboard routine on the one keyboard.  Simple as pie.
