Linux System Computer Hardware Requirements
Specs and specifications will naturally vary depending on what you want to run under Linux. Computer users purchase computer hardware to run software – not to run operating systems – whether it be a internet browser , an office suite or other programs.
In the case of Linux and your career with the Linux operating system it may well be true that you are setting up a computer system simply to learn Linux and become proficient in the Linux operating system and it operations and functions.
Generally it can be said that to run fairly simple , standard word processing and spread sheet application software your requirements may be almost minimal with today’s powerful computers with the new high end core duo CPUs and ddr2 ram. Still your package may be more minimal – an older system that someone recently upgraded from.
On the other side of the fence if you are doing serious number crunching – 3d graphic applications , the latest games or calculating ballistic missile trajectories you will need greater amounts of computer hardware support than a simple , older Pentium or Pentium 2 computer.
If your needs are slight then you can even find stripped down versions of Linux can run only a single 1.4 mb floppy disk.
